Quarantines

When an update would change profiles in an unusual way, BPP pauses that change and waits for a review. Nothing paused reaches audiences or signals until it is approved. The Quarantines tab of Identity Resolution is where those changes are reviewed.

The tab label shows the number of quarantines waiting for a decision, for example Quarantines (3).

Who can review

Quarantine decisions change the profiles every audience and signal is built on. So the tab is visible only to users of the ReconciliationQuarantineReviewer group, and to Bytek administrators. Viewing the rest of Identity Resolution, or editing the reconciliation, is not enough. Ask your BPP administrator to add you to the group.

The four kinds of quarantine

KindWhat happenedIf you approveIf you block
Group of identifiers over the limitsLinking these identifiers would create a profile far larger than a real person, for example more than 25 personal identifiers (emails, phone numbers, tax codes).The group is merged at the next update.The group is not merged. Identifiers that already had a profile keep it; new ones stay unlinked.
Identifier linked to too many othersOne identifier is linked to far more identifiers than one person has: for example a device used by more than 5 personal identifiers, a shop email used for every walk-in customer, or a shared login that gains more than 10 new devices in 30 days.The identifier links profiles again from the next update.The identifier stays out of profiles, and the profiles it would have joined stay separate.
Too many profiles merging at onceThe whole update would merge more profiles than usual in one night. It is usually a sign of bad data in a source.The paused update resumes and is applied straight away.Nothing from that update is applied. The next update reads the same data again, so it usually pauses again until the source data is fixed.
Profile no longer connectedThe identifiers of an existing profile are no longer linked to one another.Not available yet: this case can only be kept as is.The profile stays as it is.

Reviewing a quarantine

Open a quarantine from the list to see:

  • Why it was paused: the reason in one sentence.
  • If you approve: the effect on profiles, and how many active audiences and signals use the profiles involved.
  • Where the merges come from: merges by source. It is shown for too many profiles merging at once.
  • Merge rate of the previous updates, compared with the limit.
  • Details of the largest cases:
    • the limits exceeded;
    • the composition by identifier type and by source;
    • the most connected identifiers.

Personal values are always masked. Emails and phone numbers appear only as short fragments or hashes.

Each decision can carry a note for the team. The list shows who decided and when.

Group by group

A quarantine of the first two kinds can contain many groups: thousands of separate oversized groups, or many shared identifiers. The quarantine lists its groups largest first, page by page. You can decide each one:

  • Approve group: only this group is released at the next update (scheduled or started with Run update now).
  • Block group: this group stays out of profiles.

The buttons of the quarantine then become Approve all remaining (N) and Block all remaining (N). They cover every group you have not decided one by one, including the ones you never opened. A group you blocked stays blocked even if you approve all remaining.
