Anonymised Connection
Anonymised (CRM Connect) is a customer data platform that enables cookieless audience targeting. BPP can sync your audience segments to Anonymised segments so they can be activated across Anonymised's publisher network.
What you can do
- Audience segments — upload your first-party user lists to Anonymised segments using your own customer identifiers.
Prerequisites
- An active Anonymised account with access to the CRM Connect product.
- At least one published segment in Anonymised. The segment must be published before BPP can upload members to it.
- Your Anonymised login credentials (email and password).
How it works
Each sync, BPP:
- Fetches the users in your audience who have the configured identifiers available.
- Combines the configured identifier fields (in the order you defined) into a single user token per person.
- Generates a member list and uploads it to the specified Anonymised segment.
- If the segment already has members from a previous sync, BPP replaces the old list with the new one.
Each sync is a full replacement — the current audience replaces the previous one entirely.
Identifier configuration
You configure which identifiers BPP uses to generate user tokens. Unlike Google Ads and Meta Ads (which use email and phone), Anonymised accepts any identifier type you choose:
| Setting | What it means |
|---|---|
| Identifier type | The type of identifier to use (e.g., email, phone, CRM ID, cookie). |
| Key | The name for this field in the exported data. |
| Source | Where BPP retrieves this identifier from. |
If you configure multiple identifier types, BPP concatenates them in the order defined to form each user's token. Users with no valid identifiers are skipped.
Setup
- Navigate to Connections and click New Connection.
- Select Anonymised as the connection type.
- Enter your Anonymised email and password.
- Configure the identifier types to use (the order matters — identifiers are combined in the order you define them).
- Give the connection a name.
- Click Save.
The connection is ready to use as a destination for your audiences.
Supported export types
| Export type | Used with | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Audience Segments | Audiences | Full-replacement upload to Anonymised via the Segment Membership API. |
Troubleshooting
Upload rejected (400 or 404 error)
- 400 error — the upload format is invalid. This is usually a transient issue; BPP retries automatically up to 3 times.
- 404 error — the segment ID you entered does not exist in Anonymised, or the segment is not published. Verify the segment exists and is in published state in the Anonymised dashboard.
Active membership conflict (409 error)
BPP handles this automatically by deleting the existing membership before uploading the new one. If you see this error persisting, it may mean the previous deletion timed out. BPP waits up to 45 seconds for deletion to complete.
Authentication failure
If your Anonymised credentials are wrong or have changed, the connection will enter Error state. Update the credentials in the connection settings and the next scheduled sync will retry automatically.
